Transport ministers in Brussels addressed the issue of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in transpor

“The Czech Republic is fully aware of the fact that transport is one of the main polluters of our planet. In the field of land transport, emphasis must be placed on supporting urban and suburban public transport systems. Greater use of rail transport depends on the decarbonisation of transport and the development of a multi-modal freight transport solution,” said Deputy Minister of Transport Tomáš Čoček. The ministers mentioned the topic of transport decarbonisation during the discussion with European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc and Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, Andrew McDowell. The Finnish Minister of Transport also reminded the European Council's call for a climate-neutral EU.

For aviation, the transport ministers addressed European and international emission reduction instruments. Sustainable aviation fuel is also an important measure. “Europe should focus on supporting further development of these instruments, in particular through funding in the field of science and research,” adds Tomáš Čoček. Maritime transport, which accounts for 80% of total international trade, was also discussed, and there is an endeavour to shift the movement of goods from land and rail transport to inland waterway transport even more.
