Toll charge (Distance-based road charging)18/09/2020 11:15:13|Charging for the use of roads Toll charge (Distance-based road charging) The use of a toll road (motorways and selected toll roads) by a vehicle with the maximum permissible weight of over 3.5 tons shall be subject to a toll payment. The vehicle must be equipped with an on-board unit (OBU). The on-board unit is not transferable and its use is bound to a particular vehicle, which is registered in the Electronic Toll Collection System. Toll rates The toll amount is a product of toll rate and distance travelled on a toll road. The toll rates are defined according to emission standards (Euro 0–II; Euro III and IV; Euro V; EEV, Euro VI and higher), number of axle or combination of vehicles (2, 3, 4 and more) and part of a day (Friday 15:00–20:00 and other time slots). Payment options After the vehicle is registered in the Electronic Toll Collection System, incl. filling out and submission of relevant documents, you can select out of two following payment options: Pre-pay at a distribution spot; Post-pay by concluding an agreement at a contact point or by fuel cards issuer. You can select only one option. It is not possible to combine them. Pre-pay option Pre-paid credit is uploaded to OBU before using a toll road. Toll can be prepaid at a point of sale or contact points in cash, by credit/debit/fuel card. If the emission standard cannot be verified, the vehicle is automatically placed into emission standard Euro 0–II. Required documents Registration certificate of the vehicle showing emission standard; ID card (Driving licence); Fill out and sign the registration form; Pay a refundable deposit of CZK 2,468 and pre-pay credit at least for CZK 1,000 (in cash or by credit/debit/fuel card). Post-pay option For a post-pay option, it is required to have a previously conclude valid agreement. There is no credit uploaded to OBU. The toll is paid based on a statement for previous accounting period. The agreement can be concluded at contact points or by fuel card issuer. Only the vehicle’s operator or a legal representative of a company listed in the Commercial Registry are entitled to conclude the agreement. The same condition applies to a representative, who presents a certified letter of attorney. Required documents ID card or passport; Fuel cards for all vehicles or original copy of a bank guarantee (previously approved by the operator of Electronic Toll Collection System); Original or certified copy of extract from commercial registry not older than 3 months; Fill out and sign the agreement on the spot; Copy of the registration certificate of each vehicle showing emission standard. Using a toll road without paying the toll is subject to a fine up to CZK 5,000 on the spot (missing or incorrect information in OBU) or up to CZK 100,000 in an administrative proceeding (missing OBU, non-registered vehicle, incorrect data, unpaid toll, driver is missing instruction how to operate OBU). Exemption from toll payment The use of a toll road by a vehicle shall not be subject to toll payment: If the vehicle is equipped with a special warning light according to a special regulation, in case of: A vehicle of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic; A vehicle of an emergency medical service provider, transportation of emergency care patients and medical transport services; A vehicle of an integrated emergency system unit; A vehicle of the Police of the Czech Republic equipped with the inscription “POLICIE” (POLICE); A vehicle of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, including vehicles used by the Military Police and equipped with the inscription “VOJENSKÁ POLICIE” (MILITARY POLICE) and vehicles of another country's armed forces on a reciprocal basis; A vehicle of the customs authorities equipped with the words “CELNÍ SPRÁVA” (CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION); A vehicle of the fire brigades and volunteer fire brigades with the words "HASIČI” (FIRE BRIGADES); A vehicle of the municipal or city police equipped with the words "OBECNÍ POLICIE” (MUNICIPAL POLICE) or "MĚSTSKÁ POLICIE” (CITY POLICE); A vehicle of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic; A vehicle transporting severely disabled persons who, under special regulation, hold a severe disability card, or a holder of severe disability/disability card, if the operator of the vehicle is the disabled person themselves or a close person; A vehicle transporting dependent children who are being treated for cancer or hemoblastosis; A vehicle registered in the registry of road vehicles for members of diplomatic mission; A vehicle operated by a nursing home for people with disabilities, if used to transport people with disabilities; A vehicle performing rescue and termination work and protecting the population; A vehicle of the State Reserve Bureau administration to transport state material reserves, or providing humanitarian aid during emergency; A vehicle of the charge road administrator, i.e. the Road and Motorway Directorate; In case of using toll road as a road diversion due to closure.
