Green Lanes extended to other transport modes. European Commission enhances EU readiness.
With regard to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions introduced by the member states, the European Commission published a communication to extend the concept of Green Lanes. The aim is to preserve effective cross-border transport of goods and lower administrative burden for carriers to a minimum. This platform newly applies also to rail, water and air transport.

Similarly to the situation in spring, the quarantine measures and obligation for testing should not apply to the workers in international transport. The Commission recommends submitting forms in a digital form to avoid contact between carriers and inspectors. It is also essential to strengthen and use national contact points and ensure basic services for drivers.

The communication also includes a list of forthcoming legislation, e.g. draft Omnibus II regulation. This regulation will allow extending the validity of transport documents, including drivers’ licences. The Commission also wants to unify the exemptions from restrictions concerning e.g. driving and rest time in road transport.

The communication is available here or below.
