From June 1, an amendment to the Act on the conditions for the operation of vehicles on the road will come into effect, allowing the owners and operators of vehicles to carry out operations in the vehicle register in any department of the respective municipality with extended competence. Up to now, it has been necessary to come to the department at the place of permanent residence or registered office.
BESIP celebrates 50 years of existence in May 2017. Over this long period of time, it has "experienced" a number of social and political changes, and has, for example, had to cope with the emergence of modern technologies that we consider today in our everyday life to be a matter of fact. But are drivers and all road users really different from those 50 years ago? One thing definitely remains the same. It is a must to be considerate to one another on the road and realize that we are not alone on the road and must drive safely. This is also included in the name of BESIP – Bezpečnost Silničního Provozu (road safety).
The construction of the next section of the Prague Ring Road linking the D1 motorway with Běchovice and the D11 Hradec motorway is now one step closer. The Road and Motorway Directorate has ensured the preparation and submitted to the Ministry of the Environment the documentation required for the environmental impact assessment. The Ministry plans to issue an opinion within six months.
The state enterprise Air Navigation Services (ANS) of the Czech Republic reached the gross profit of CZK 480 million, while the turnover was the record-breaking CZK 4 billion. This significantly exceeded the expected financial results.
Drivers who speed on the D1 sections that are currently being repaired will have to face a section speed measurement system between exits 49 Psáře and 56 Soutice. This traffic safety measure shall ensure a smoother traffic flow, less accidents and dangerous situations. Detection cameras proved their function last year near Brno where the accident rate in the section measured dropped following their installation. About 150,000 drivers received the request to pay a fine of CZK 1000 (euro 35), i.e. only three percent of the vehicles passing the construction site.
The safety of autonomous vehicles, their development and testing was high on the agenda during the bilateral negotiations between the transportation minister Dan Ťok and the US Transportation Ministry. The minister attended the meeting during his visit to the USA. Road traffic safety and sharing of experience with the construction of transportation infrastructure were among the other topics discussed.
