A safer road to the Červenohorské sedlo pass has opened9/6/2017|Press releasesThe new eight-kilometre section has completed the entire modernisation of the North and South Section of the Červenohorské sedlo pass. The I/44 road, which is the key link for tourism in this area, connects the Šumpersko and Jesenicko regions and also provides interregional transport links, i.e. the interconnection of these regions with inland and Poland. This class I road is one situated in the highest altitude of all Czech class I roads and now opens to drivers throughout its length. Sdílet Tweet The reconstruction was primarily aimed at reducing the risk of accidents and increasing overall safety on this major and very busy road. The road was widened in the curves and also the overtaking sections with a length of approx. 1000 m were built as well. This previously dangerous road without a retaining system, which was particularly dangerous for drivers and pedestrians in the winter, has now changed dramatically. "For the Jesenicko and Olomouc regions, this road is crucial because it connects the big town of Jeseník and the municipalities that are behind the ridge of the Jeseníky mounts with the rest of the country. After this reconstruction, it is a nice class I road, which is the only class I road sitting over a thousand meters and the inhabitants of the Jesenicko region definitely deserve it," said Dan Ťok, the Transport Minister, during the opening of the road. Road I/44 is the only class I road for tourists to access the important mountain resort of the Červenohorské sedlo pass. This facts eventually turned out to be the decisive factor in the planned reconstruction of the road on both sides of the Červenohorské sedlo pass when it was decided that the construction will be gradual: starting on the north side and keeping the access to this important mountain resort at least on one side throughout the construction. The Červenohorské sedlo pass lies at an altitude of 1,013 m. The road is hence the highest-placed category I road in the Czech Republic. The road also overcomes an altitude difference over 400 meters with a system of traverses placed along the slope of Velký Klínovec, interconnected by small bends (less than 20 meters).
