The Railway Administration recorded 296 events during the storm Sabine14/2/2020|Press releasesIn connection with the storm Sabine, which hit most of the territory of the Czech Republic earlier this week, the Railway Administration recorded a total of 296 events, of which 192 resulted in the interruption of traffic. In the vast majority of cases, traffic was stopped due to trees which fell on the track. Good news is that only in eight cases the train hit a tree. The total damage amounted to almost nine million crowns. Out of the total number of 192 traffic interruptions, 19 events concerned preventive traffic interruption, 169 events were caused by trees falling on the railway tracks, and four events had a different reason (roof falling on the rails, equipment in the railway track, etc.). The worst situation was in the South Bohemian and Pilsen regions under the administration of the Plzeň Regional Directorate, where the total of 65 events occurred. For the longest time, for almost 80 hours, the traffic between Rybník and Lipno in South Bohemia was stopped, where fallen trees damaged the overhead wires. The worst situation was on Monday, 10 February, when the Railway Administration recorded the total of 219 events, a day later it was 76 events, on Sunday, 9 February, only one event. Regarding the amount of damage, it exceeded CZK 2.7 million in the two most affected regions, the total amount for the entire network of the Railway Administration reached up to CZK 8.9 million. Apart from damage to the tracks and the overhead wires, some station buildings were also damaged during the storm Sabine, such as in Turnov, Liberec, Prague-Běchovice or Újezdec u Luhačovic. In most cases, it was partially damages roofs.
