Multiple constructions of new motorways in progress10/6/2021|Press releasesThe current construction of new motorways on green-field surpassed 150 kilometres. Works are in progress on D3 in South Bohemia, on D11 heading towards Czech-Polish borders, on D35 as an alternative connecting Bohemia and Moravia or on D4 to Písek, a recently launched construction in a form of a PPP project. By the end of this year, 46.5 kilometres of completely new motorways will be in operation. “Our ambition to build a record number of motorway construction on green-field is gradually becoming a reality. On Monday, we have launched a PPP project to build 32 kilometres of the new D4. On Thursday, we continued with 13.2 km on D48 near Nový Jičín. By the end of the week, we have reached the highest number of 151.5 kilometres of new motorways in construction. This number does not include the 41.9 km of modernised D1 and 67.3 km of national roads, mostly bypasses”, said the Minister of Transport Karel Havlíček. “Let us not forget, that between 2011 and 2014 we have witnessed an average of mere 0.2 kilometres of new motorway constructions, whereas we will add 90.7 kilometres for this year alone”, added Mr Havlíček. The construction season 2021 has already reached its peak in terms of motorway and road works. The Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) plans to begin with constructions of another 45.6 kilometres of new motorways’ stretches by the end of this year. This apply for example to D3 between Třebonín and Kaplice or other stretches on D6 to Karlovy Vary or on D7 to Chomutov, where the construction cannot begin until issues in selection procedure for the contractor are resolved. In Morava region, there is D49 between Hulín and Fryšták (if the appeal procedure ends in time) or 9 km of D55 between Staré Město and Moravský Písek. Behind every construction are years of preparations. No closures on D1, 46.5 km of new motorways will open by the end of this year In September/October, all road narrowing, temporary crash barriers and closures will be removed from the last 41.9 km of modernised D1 between Mirošovice and Ostrovačice. “Drivers can already enjoy driving on a new surface, albeit only in narrowed lanes, which will remain on D1 for another 4 months. However, the after-works will not limit the regular traffic”, said the Director-General of ŘSD Radek Mátl. ŘSD also plans to open 46.5 kilometres of completely new stretches of new motorways by the end of this year. This includes bypass of Lubenec on D6, bypass of Panenský Týnec on D7, D11 from Hradec Králové to Jaroměř, D35 between Opatovice nad Labem and Časy and bypass Otrokovice on D55.
