Almost 850 000 one-year electronic vignettes will expire at the end of January

The state enterprise CENDIS and the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI) remind drivers to check the validity of their electronic vignettes and buy a new one on time. Those who have set up a notification of the ticket's expiry will receive the notification in their e-mail or, if they have entered their phone number, via SMS.

Almost 850 000 one-year electronic vignettes will expire at the end of January
The notification will come ten days before the end of the validity. "If you're not sure whether you have this alert set up or not, simply check and if necessary set it up at edalnice.cz. Just enter the licence plate and the authorisation code from the payment receipt you received by e-mail when you purchased the ticket in the Ticket Management box," says Jan Paroubek, director of the state enterprise CENDIS which operates the electronic vignette system.

On the same website you can also check until when the electronic vignette is valid. The procedure is quick and easy. "In the Validation Section you simply enter the licence plate number and the state of registration of your vehicle and the system immediately shows whether the vignette is valid and until when. And you can buy a new one at edalnice.cz immediately. Ninety percent of drivers are already using the online store for buying their vignettes," Paroubek adds. The vignette can also be purchased at Czech post offices, EuroOil petrol stations or self-service kiosks in border areas.

Police and customs officers are those who check whether drivers have a valid electronic vignette. Driving without the vignette can result in a fine of up to CZK 5 000. And in administrative proceedings the penalty can reach up to CZK 20 000. "Last year, patrols of the traffic police service dealt with over 34 500 such offences on the spot, with a total of fines reaching CZK 32 413 700. Over 200 offences were reported to the competent administrative authority of the Customs Administration. Compared with 2021, about 14 800 more offences were detected and about CZK 13.4 million more in fines were collected," says Michal Hodboď from the Directorate of Traffic Police Service.

Drivers don't have to buy an electronic vignette at the last minute, but they can take advantage of the option to buy it up to 90 days before the start of its validity. However, they should always keep the ticket receipt with the authorisation code, which is the key to any later changes. Thanks to the code, they can for example change the entire licence plate number once before the vignette becomes valid and, if necessary and once it becomes valid, correct errors and typos – up to two characters in the licence plate and the state of registration of the vehicle.

The price of the electronic vignette does not change for 2023. A one-year ticket costs CZK 1 500, a thirty-day one costs CZK 440 and a ten-day vignette costs CZK 310. The eco-price for vehicles powered by natural gas and biomethane is half of the normal price. Electric cars are exempt from the motorway toll.

If drivers need any advice when purchasing an electronic ticket, the customer service line is available 24/7 at 222 266 757 or via e-mail info@dalnice.cz.
