It is already more than three years that drivers don't have to physically apply for a driving licenc24/7/2024|Press releasesApplying for the driving licence from the comfort of our home, regardless of office hours, with a discount on the administration fee and saving one trip to the office and money. This option has been available to drivers in the Czech Republic for more than three years. During this time, more than 150,000 drivers have used the so-called eSubmission, applying for the driving licence online via the Transport Portal or the Citizen Portal. Drivers in Prague, Brno and Pilsen use the eSubmission option the most. "The electronic application for the driver's licence is one of the most widely used services in the field of digital transport agencies. It is possible to apply for a new document not only when it expires but also if it is stolen, lost or if personal data have been changed," says transport minister Martin Kupka, reminding that in all these cases, a reduced five-day processing period can be used. In addition to saving one trip to the office and being able to apply for a new document at any time from the comfort of your home, eSubmission also speeds up the entire application process considerably. The system automatically pre-fills all known information about the applicant, including the most recent photo and signature. The user only needs to set the contact details for notifications unless they are not already entered in the Residents Registry, and the office where the applicant will collect the licence. In addition, the applicant can also save 20% of the fee for applications subject to a charge, i.e. applications related to theft, loss, change of personal data or expedited processing, where this saves up to CZK 140. In 2021 the project was ranked as a successful eGovernment project. In 2022 it was awarded the Honourable Mention Český zavináč. This is however not the only initiative in the field of digitalisation of transport agendas, which drivers can already use to facilitate their process and make efficient use of their time. The Transport Portal's range of services also includes for example the possibility to check the status of the penalty points account and set up notifications in the event of a change, download an extract from the driver's registration card, check the validity of the driving licence, view information on all vehicles historically owned or operated and or check the tachometer status of vehicles. The Transport Portal also offers a lot of services for captains, pilots or rail enthusiasts. In February this year the functionality was significantly expanded, now including also electronic applications for change of owner or operator of a road vehicle, issue of a supplementary licence plate, registration of a road vehicle in the Vehicle Registry and the possibility to obtain free extracts from the Vehicle Registry. More than 450,000 users have viewed information about themselves in the drivers' agenda, almost 80,000 have downloaded their driver registration card statement for free or almost 40,000 have set up notifications about changes to their penalty points account within six months. I believe that greater public awareness and a wider range of functionalities will lead to further growth in the number of users and overall use of the services," the minister added. There will be even more functionalities added to the Transport Portal. Where will his next steps lead? It will be for example made available to legal entities and for news in the vehicle agenda such as notifications about the validity of the technical inspection certificate or information about vehicle insurance. There will be a lot of innovations in the drivers' agenda such as the electronic application for the driver's card for the digital tachograph, electronic payment of administrative fees and much more.
