Next year CZK 86.3 billion shall be invested in the construction of new sections but also repairs of motorways, category I roads and railways. The government approved the budget of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. It also ruled that the finance and transportation minister shall invest four billion in repairs of municipal roads during the first quarter of next year.
The motorways where work has most progressed are the South-Bohemian D3, the D6 to Karlsbad, continuation of the D11 to Hradec Králové and construction of the Frýdek-Místek bypass on the D48. An extension to the D35 in section Časy – Ostrov and the Budweis bypass are also soon starting. Of the 177 km, 100 km are motorways and 67 are category I roads. The government today received information on these construction projects.
The Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, represented by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, and the Czech Republic, represented by the Minister of Transport, Dan Ťok, signed a memorandum of understanding on a cooperation in the frame of space resources exploration and utilization.
Construction of the D11 motorway between Hradec Králové and Smiřice started on October 2. This means that the D11 motorway will continue from Hradec Králové to the north towards Poland. Along with the connecting section between Smiřice and Jaroměř, where works started in May 2018, the motorway will divert traffic from the existing I/33 road between Hradec Králové and Jaroměř, the capacity of which is already now stretched to the limits.
Since October 1, several changes relevant for motorists come into effect. The content of the compulsory equipment of vehicles changes, so drivers no longer have to carry spare bulbs, fuses and the reserve wheel in the car. They also no longer have to replace expired first air boxes. When entering a traffic jam, drivers must now create the so-called rescue isle between the left and the adjacent driving lane. Motorbike riders no longer need to go to emission tests and penalties of up to CZK 500,000 can be imposed for mileage fraud.
The Ministry of Transport together with State Fund for Transport Infrastructure and the advisory consortium formed by White & Case, Česká spořitelna (Erste Group) and Obermeyer Helika assessed the content of the requests for participation in the tender for the concessionaire for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project on the D4 motorway. All seven applicants declare experience with a similar type of project, where the concessionaire designed, built, financed and operates a selected section of the motorway. The ministry is now selecting four bidders for the completion and operation of 32 km of the D4 motorway between Příbram and Písek.
