The government adopted an amendment to Civil Aviation Act, which is a part of a strategy on operation of unmanned aircraft in the Czech Republic, introducing recently implemented European rules for the use of drones. The act introduces additional control mechanisms or an option to apply for documents online and builds on previously launched registration of operators and training for remotely operating pilots according to the European rules.
The e-vignette information campaign promotes a new way to pay the toll and also points out some difficulties, which can occur during the purchase. Approximately 690 thousand of e-vignettes has already been sold since December last year. In most cases, people buy it via an online shop edanice.cz
Despite the simplicity of a new e-vignette system, mistakes can be made. It is therefore best to purchase the vignette in advance. Drivers can check the entered data afterwards and correct potential mistakes.
Last year, the death toll of traffic accidents dropped to a historic minimum. For the first time, the overall death toll fell under 500 casualties (460 deaths). The number of serious injuries also decreased significantly. Similar to other EU Member States, the accident rate was affected by the coronavirus pandemic, which reduced transport and mobility, mainly in spring season. The Police of the Czech Republic published a detailed assessment of accident rate in 2020.
Správa železnic (the national railway infrastructure manager) is working on increasing safety of level crossings. Last year, a total of 155 level crossings were rebuilt for more than CZK 1.5 billion. This year, it plans to rebuilt another 200 level crossings for approx. CZK 2 billion, which is more than previously planned.
From January 2021, foreign drivers coming to the Czech Republic can buy new electronic vignette either via e-shop on eDalnice.cz or in 12 self-service kiosks, which are located mainly in border areas. The kiosks communicate in English, German, Polish, Hungarian and Russian. Payment is possible only by card.
