Billions of Czech crowns will be invested in the reconstruction of Česká Třebová for faster connecti3/3/2025|Press releasesSpráva železnic kick-started the modernisation of one of the busiest transport hubs in the country. Both the tracks used by passenger trains and the freight area will both undergo a complete reconstruction in Česká Třebová. All platforms will be completely reconstructed and access to them will be barrier-free. The city will be better connected by a new footbridge over the rail line. The upgrades should be completed by the end of 2031. Česká Třebová is one of the largest and most important hubs in Central Europe, with up to five hundred trains passing through it every day. "Investments in transport are one of the priorities of our government, so I am pleased to see that we are continuing the trend of accelerating the railway, which we see as key to transforming the Czech Republic into a modern country open to new challenges and opportunities. We are now starting one of the largest railway construction projects in the era of the independent Czech Republic. The modernisation of the Česká Třebová hub is significant in the context of the whole of Europe, because it is an important junction for international trains as well. The project will also increase passenger comfort and safety," said prime minister Petr Fiala. The last major renovation of the station was made in the 1950s. The scope of work is massive: almost 72 kilometres of tracks and tens of kilometres of catenary will be renewed. A total of 173 turnouts will be upgraded and 30 bridges reconstructed. The investment will also include the reconstruction of the bridges that connect the freight area of the station with the main line. "The station and the adjacent town constitute one historical entity, so it is good news for local residents that the impact from train operations will be felt much less than before thanks to noise barriers and noise absorbers. Trains will accelerate from 60 to 80 km/h when passing through the station," says transport minister Martin Kupka. A new information system will be set up throughout the station. All platforms will be reconstructed, including roofing. The new platform edge will be higher for comfortable train boarding. The existing underpass, from which passengers will be able to reach the platform comfortably by lifts, will also be renovated. "The extension of the underpass under all tracks will improve access to the area behind the station. The station forecourt will be connected to Semanínská street by a modern steel footbridge instead of the inadequate underpass," says Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic. During this year it will be mainly the preparatory work that will be carried out, such as tree removal and dismantling of selected tracks. Temporary safety equipment will be installed and construction of a new steel footbridge will begin. The bridge should be completed in the middle of next year. The modernisation of the passenger station tracks, including platforms and the underpass, will be the biggest constraint for passengers. It will be in full swing in 2028. The contractors are EUROVIA CZ; Chládek a Tintěra, Pardubice; STRABAG Rail and Elektrizace železnic Praha. The total investment costs is CZK 19,541,770,652. The implementation of the Česká Třebová Railway Node Modernisation project was approved by the European Union for co-financing from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme. The total amount of eligible project costs for the purposes of the subsidy is CZK 8.35 billion. The EU support rate is 85% of eligible costs. The maximum amount of the subsidy is therefore EUR 290 000 000, i.e. roughly CZK 7 billion. It is the highest grant ever received from the CEF programme. National funding will be provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. Renderings can be downloaded at https://datashare.spravazeleznic.cz/ad/index.php/s/7yTTaHZzhv3QsWS.
