The road link between the Czech Republic and Poland or the traffic situation at the border. These were the main topics discussed by Czech transport minister Martin Kupka and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Adamczyk during a tour of the border region. They also visited the construction site of the S3 speedway near Lubawka in Poland and held talks with the mayors of the municipalities affected by the construction of the D11 motorway in Trutnov.

We want to have the D11 motorway finished by 2027, said Minister Kupka
"We will start building the section from Trutnov to the Polish border in 2023 and it should be finished in 2026. This means two years after the completion of the Polish section. We would like to complete the remaining section between Trutnov and Jaroměř in 2027," said the transport minister Martin Kupka.

Minister Kupka also assured that on the I/16 road between the state border and Trutnov it will be necessary to maintain the current restrictions for freight traffic over nine tonnes until the section of the D11 motorway from Trutnov to the state border has been completed.

On the Polish side, ministers Kupka and Adamczyk visited the construction site of the future S3 speedway near Lubawka and the tunnel construction near Stare Bogaczowice. The two politicians then discussed the completion of the D11 motorway in Trutnov with the mayors and representatives of the region and the Road and Motorway Directorate (Ředitelství silnic a dálnic).

"Work on the Polish S3 speedway continues and will soon be completed. This road will connect the ports of Szczecin and Svinousti with the Czech-Polish border, where it will connect to the D11 motorway. Building transport links is important for both countries, because it contributes to their economic growth," said Polish infrastructure minister Andrzej Adamczyk.

The D11 motorway is one of the key pieces of the Czech road network. It connects Prague with the East Bohemian agglomeration, mainly Hradec Králové, and currently ends at Jaroměř. In the future it will continue around Trutnov to the Královec/Lubawka border crossing, where it will connect to the Polish S3 speedway, which provides a link to the Baltic Sea.

With the completion of the D11 motorway, a high-quality cross-border connection with Poland will be created, offering a new high-capacity road that will take over the function of the current congested I/37 road. This road currently connects the important regional centres Jaroměř – Dvůr Králové nad Labem – Trutnov.
