Správa železnic will have CZK 62.7 billion available for the renewal of lines and stations in 2025. This is almost one billion more than in 2024. A record 39.3 billion will be spent on investments, thanks to which the modernisation of the important Česká Třebová node will start, among other things. Next year, the construction of the first parts of the 200 km/h high-speed line from Brno to Přerov will begin, and intensive preparation of high-speed lines will continue.

Record investments will enable further development of the railways, construction of high-speed rail
Dozens important investments will start on the Czech railway in 2025. "The construction commencement of the first line sections for the speed of 200 km/h as part of the construction of a fast connection between Brno and Přerov will be a major milestone. Regarding safety, the first thing to mention is the launch of the exclusive operation of the state-of-the-art ETCS train control system, which will take place during January on 622 kilometres of corridor lines," says transport minister Martin Kupka.

Správa železnic is currently reconstructing thirty station buildings, and work will start on more than twenty more in 2025. In total, almost CZK 2.3 billion will be spent on their maintenance, repairs and reconstruction. "We are currently restoring historically valuable buildings in Pardubice, Ostrava-Vítkovice, Jaroměř and Lovosice, and new railway stations will be built in Praha-Bubny and Brno-Královo Pole as part of overall modernisation. Next year, we will start the reconstruction of the remaining part of the Fantova building in the Prague Main Railway Station. And a completely new structure will be built in Mladá Boleslav," says Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.

Investments to start in 2025
Execution of the rail line to Václav Havel Airport will continue in 2025. The modernisation of the section from Praha-Ruzyně to Kladno will thus be added to ongoing investments. The reconstruction of the main railway station in Hradec Králové and also the Česká Třebová station, an essential hub for passengers and freight, will get in full swing.

Správa železnic will also start the modernisation of two sections between Nezamyslice and Přerov on the important link between Brno and Přerov. This will effectively create a high-speed line that will be part of the future high-speed network in the Czech Republic. After work completion, trains will be able to use the double-track line for the speed of 200 km/h. The total transformation of the cross-border connection between western Bohemia and Bavaria will start with the reconstruction of the existing line between Pilsen, Nýřany and Chotěšov. Work will also begin on the electrification and capacity increase of the line from Týniště nad Orlicí to Solnice.
Several sections will undergo cyclical renewal, including a part of the so-called “right river bank line” between Nymburk and Liběchov or the line from Horní Lideč to the state border with Slovakia. The cyclic renewal of the catenary between Úpořiny and Ohníč in the Ústí nad Labem Region and in the section Nymburk marshalling yard – Babín branch line will be important especially for freight transport. A gradual replacement of the overhead contact wire on the line Tábor – Bechyně will begin, a plain reconstruction will then take place in the sections Olomouc – Blatec and Police nad Metují – Teplice nad Metují.

A total of 73 kilometres of lines will be upgraded this year. Another 47 kilometres will be added next year.

Preparation of high-speed lines
Preparation of high-speed lines is well under way. The design is now ready for half of the 750 km of the future network. Správa železnic has also selected the designer for the last part of the high-speed line from Prague to Brno: the section between Světlá nad Sázavou and Velká Bíteš. Geological and engineering surveys began in Prosenice and Přerov-Čekyně on the route of the future HSL Moravian Gate. The same surveys are planned for the so-called Erzgebirge Tunnel this year still.

"At the turn of the year we expect to obtain a positive EIA statement, i.e. the environmental impact assessment for the HSL Moravian Gate. This will allow us to start with land acquisition. We are also continuing with architectural competitions, and in the coming days we will announce one for the Kořenice-Bečváry HSL terminal. We should know what it will look like next spring," says Jiří Svoboda.

We are also preoccupied with the traffic control on HSL from operation control centres in Prague and Přerov. In November we will start design work on a new building for Prague's Balabenka.

Repairs and maintenance of lines
A total of CZK 19.25 billion will be spent on repairs and maintenance of lines in 2025. However, this amount will be increased by the funds earmarked for flood damage repair. The most important projects in 2025 include the complete repair of the rack and pinion line from Tanvald to Kořenov, the repair of the Olbramovice – Sedlčany line or the tracks and turnouts in Příbram and Česká Kamenicestations. The bridge over the Jihlava river between Jihlava and Jihlava město stations is also awaiting renewal.

What has already been finished
The completion of the total reconstruction of the Pardubice main station was a significant improvement for passengers in eastern Bohemia. Work has also been completed on the connecting section to Stéblová. Now, almost the entire line between the two East Bohemian regional capitals is double-tracked. The section from Střelice to Zastávka u Brna will receive two tracks and, additionally, a catenary for electric trains by the end of the year. A second track was also added in Prague on Branický Most and in the section up to the new Spořilov branch line. For international transport, it is important to complete the modernisation of the line from Lanžhot to the state border with Slovakia. This year we will complete the reconstruction of the Vsetín station, including the terminal building, and open a new overpass over the corridor in Holická street in Olomouc. After a complete reconstruction, trains have already returned to the line between Vlkov u Tišnova and Křižanov.

Správa železnic completed the renovation of several large buildings in Pilsen, České Budějovice and Beroun this year. In Teplice, the first phase – the facade and roof – of this historically valuable building has been completed. Construction is also finished in Světlá nad Sázavou.
