Loss, damage, theft of the technical licence or licence plate22/01/2021 15:38:07|Registry of motor vehicles Assigning the vehicle registration plate and issuing the vehicle registration certificate or vehicle registration certificate – in case of loss, damage or theft The owner or operator of the vehicle shall immediately notify the municipal authority of the municipality with extended jurisdiction of the loss, damage or theft of the licence plate, technical vehicle certificate or registration certificate. The person authorised to act is generally the natural or legal person who will be entered in the Vehicle Registry as the owner of the vehicle or, in case of a joint application, the owner and the person who is named in the application as the operator of the vehicle. Who to turn to? You can contact any municipal office of a municipality with extended jurisdiction: there are 206 such offices in the Czech Republic and you can search and find them on the map below. What to bring to the office? application for the issuance of a new document or licence plate (in CZ language only) identity document original or legally verified copy of the trade licence or extract from the commercial registry (for company cars) report to the police (in the case of theft of the licence plate or vehicle registration certificate) damaged and/or remaining licence plates or damaged vehicle documents vehicle registration certificate and technical vehicle certificate if available, and/or a document certifying authorisation to act on behalf of another person. The administrative fee is CZK 100 for the issue of the technical vehicle certificate, CZK 200 for every plate plus CZK 50 for any change to the data recorded. The licence plates are issued immediately (usually on the spot) or, in more complex cases, within 30 days.
