Europe needs a systematic change towards decarbonisation and needs to respond more flexibly to the current state of industry and market developments. This is key to strengthening the competitiveness of Europe and Czech businesses, reducing strategic dependence on China and maintaining jobs in the industry.
The impact of the ban on the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines must be revisited as soon as possible, so that the European car industry can stay competitive, safeguard jobs and ensure the availability of transport. Transport minister Martin Kupka is convinced of this.
From autumn 2024, drivers of vehicles registered in the Czech Republic will not need to carry the green card in any form when driving on Czech roads. The check will be carried out online, so the driver will only need to carry the ID card and not even the physical one – the electronic ID will be sufficient. For insurance policies concluded after 1 October 2024 the innovation starts right now. Contracts concluded before 1 October 2024 will be registered in the information system of the Czech Insurers' Bureau (ČKP) and will be available for online inspection in the second half of November at the latest. So even older policies can benefit from this improvement during this autumn.
The Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with the Association of the Automotive Industry and the Association of Car Importers, prepared an amendment to the law that will fully utilise the potential of the current technical capabilities of cars sold in the Czech Republic and the EU. Správa železnic will have CZK 62.7 billion available for the renewal of lines and stations in 2025. This is almost one billion more than in 2024. A record 39.3 billion will be spent on investments, thanks to which the modernisation of the important Česká Třebová node will start, among other things.
