E-vignettes: one year later. People bought e-vignettes worth over 5 billion Czech crowns1/12/2021|Press releasesIt has been exactly one year since the sale of e-vignettes launched. Digitisation made their purchase easier and more comfortable. Drivers can choose the start of validity and will also receive a notification by SMS or e-mail about nearing end of validity. To this day, 5,749,263 e-vignettes were sold, which is more than in 2020, when only old paper vignettes were available. “The e-vignette system works and is one of the best electronic tools for our citizens. It is fast, easy to use and safe and the drivers are satisfied with it. It saves money for the state budget and the time for drivers because they can use it from their home. After one year of operation, it can serve as an inspiration for digitisation of other areas”, said Minister of Transport Karel Havlíček. The old system of paper vignettes meant that drivers had to go to a store, buy the vignette, stick it on their windscreen and scrape it off after it expired, whereas with the new electronic system the purchase of e-vignette takes approximately three minutes. Most often, people buy e-vignettes on Thursday; in average 15 thousand of e-vignettes is sold per day. “One year of operation is more time than we had for developing the system. Now is a good time to look back. I have a good feeling from the final result and appreciate everyone who developed the system, put it in operation and are still working on making it better”, said Jiří Paroubek, the director of CENDIS, the company operating the e-vignette system. In the last year, the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure worked with CENDIS and responded to inputs that emerged during the operation. It helped to make the purchase system easier, implement measures decreasing malfunctions, extend refund options for e-vignettes bought to a non-existing licence plate, etc. In the last year were sold e-vignettes for CZK 5,188,931,115. People bought mostly one-year vignette (2,812,889 pc) and 10-days vignette (2,315,445 pc), the least chosen option was one-month vignette (620,929 pc). Approximately 83% of drivers chose to buy the e-vignette online via edalnice.cz. It is also possible to buy it at any of 2,000 post offices (ca. 7% of total purchases), 200 EuroOil petrol stations (ca. 8% of total purchases) or 14 self-service kiosks (under 2% of total purchases). Similarly to paper vignettes, the e-vignettes are a popular and practical Christmas gift. After entering licence plate on edalnice.cz, the expiry date of the current e-vignette is displayed and you can subsequently buy a new one. In case of questions, drivers can contact a customer service. In the last year, the employees dealt with 10,000 calls, e-mails, exemption notices and other inquiries.
