End of seasonal roadworks on D1. The modernisation is planned to finish during autumn 202110/11/2020|Press releasesThis year, the roadworks on D1 have been the longest and most restricting. The modernisation took place on 7 sections in a total length of 71 out of 160 kilometres concerned between Mirošovice and Kývalka. During the winter break, all works will be stopped and the motorway will remain fully open. “This year’s roadwork season on D1 was strenuous both for drivers, who had to deal with a record number of restrictions, and for construction companies, who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, whether in terms of government measures or loss of foreign workers. Next year, the situation will be easier”, said minister of transport Karel Havlíček. Over 21 kilometres of the “new” D1 will be completed and fully opened this year. In mid-October, already 10 kilometres between Soutice and Loket (section 7) were put into operation. During November, the entire section 19 around Velké Meziříčí in the length of 5 kilometres and section 12 between Humpolec and Větrný Jeníkov in the length of 6 kilometres will be opened. Less than 50 kilometres of roadworks remain for 2021, but 8 of them will be completed already in spring on section 12, where the finishing works will take place for about a month in the middle stretch without any significant restrictions for drivers. In fact, next year the roadworks will take place only on 4 sections in the length of ca. 41 kilometres. Despite all the problems that the Ministry of Transport, the Road and Motorway Directorate and other contractors had to deal with during the strenuous season, the modernisation should be completed in October 2021. “We will push to complete at least part of the unfinished sections earlier, let’s say in September”, said Mr. Havlíček.
