There are 261 000 driving licences to expire this year and need replacement. Users can quickly and easily apply for a new document online using their bank identity via the Transport Portal. The driving licence can be also sent to a pick-up box or the physical Balíkovna distribution point as close to your place of residence as possible. People can now collect their driving licences at more than 10 000 locations across the Czech Republic.

"The use of the state's digital tools must be very user friendly. And this is what the Transport Portal, where users can, among others things, apply for a new driving licence and log in e.g. using their bank identity, is about. More than 31 000 driving licences have been distributed so far since 2 July and picked up all over the Czech Republic," says transport minister Martin Kupka.

"The Bank Identity is already actively used by 5 million Czechs with electronic banking and anyone can apply for the replacement on the Transport Portal within minutes. Users can then pick up their driving licence in the pick-up boxes 24/7 throughout the Czech Republic, explains Marek Růžička, Executive Director of Bankovní identita.

Driving licences can now be collected at more than 10 000 Balíkovna distribution points

Replacement of an expired driving licence is free of charge and can be requested up to 90 days before the expiry date. It is now possible to use any of the 10 000 pick-up boxes, locations or Balíkovna points across the Czech Republic for a fee of CZK 100. Driving licences are produced and sent by the State Printing House of Valuables, and information can also be obtained from the customer line of the state enterprise CENDIS (+ 420 222 266 758) every day. The standard processing and delivery period is twenty days. The applicant can then still pick up the document at any of the 206 municipalities with extended jurisdiction.

The largest number of driving licences will have to be replaced this year in the Central Bohemia Region (36 900), the South Moravia Region (29 000) and Prague (28 100). In the Karlovy Vary Region, on the other hand, there are only 6 700 drivers whose driving licences will expire by the end of the year.

The majority of licence holders facing a replacement are aged 61 and over, and there are more than 104 000 of them. In contrast, there are only 20 500 drivers aged 30 and less whose licences expire in 2025.
