On Wednesday, 2 July, RSD will begin repairing the D8 motorway between the Trmice grade-separated crossing in the Ústí nad Labem region and the Libouchec tunnel. The total length of the motorway section is 14 km. Both lanes will be repaired, including the adjacent exits. Both-way traffic will be preserved. The exit and entrance ramps of exits 69 to 80 will be closed. Cars will be diverted along duly marked detours. The road pavement repair will take 60 days. From 2 July, the Panenská and Libouchec tunnels on the D8 before the border with Germany will also be closed for a week.

This is the first major repair since the D8 motorway was opened. The project also included a repair to the D8 motorway between Lovosice and Bílina. This 4km section was repaired in just 10 days.

The repair shall ensure comfortable and smooth traffic flow. The asphalt will be replaced, contaminated unpaved shoulders removed and the central dividing strip overhauled. The drainage system will be repaired as well. RSD will also remove smaller plants and replace the fencing.

The Varvažov rest areas are located on the section to the repaired. The rest area in the direction of Prague will be closed from July 20 to 31.  The rest area in the direction of Germany will be closed from August 1 to 12.

"Drivers are therefore advised to arrange for the stamp in advance in another way. The fastest and most convenient way is to use the official state e-shop edalnice.cz, both from a mobile phone and a computer. The e-stamp can also be purchased at RoBiN Oil and EuroOil petrol stations or at branches of the Czech Post. Another safe option for purchase is portaldopravy.cz, where a QR code can be used to easily complete the payment," said CENDIS spokesperson Radka Nastoupilová.

The repairs are being carried out by the joint venture EUROVIA CZ and STRABAG SIS for CZK 496,069 million excluding VAT.  The work should be completed by the beginning of September 2025.

On top of these works, RSD will close the Panenská and Libouchec tunnels on the D8 motorway before the German border for a week from 2 July.  The motorway will be closed from exit 80 to exit 87. When going to Dresden, the detour will be via Telnice and Nakléřov. In the opposite direction the detour will be via Petrovice and Libouchec.

After the complete one-week closure, one tunnel tube will be closed again while the other tunnel tube will be open to traffic in both directions. The repair of the tunnels will require another one-week closure at the beginning of October. The modernisation of the tunnels should be completed in October 2025. Then the speed limit in the tunnels will be increased to 100 km/h from the current 80 km/h.
