In the first three months since the launch of driver's license delivery to delivery boxes, delivery points and Balíkovna locations, more than 21 000 drivers have already taken advantage of this option. The most recent statistics shows that 42 percent of those who applied online did not have to visit the office at all to exchange their expiring document or change data. Accounting for 68% of all applications submitted via the internet, delivery to the delivery box has definitely been the most popular service so far.

"People seek convenient forms of delivery for their documents to be picked up. Since 1 July 2025, it has been possible to pick up the document just like any package from an online store, saving more than 21 000 people the time it would take to visit the office. We will continue to simplify the transport-related agenda. Already at the beginning of 2026 we will offer a simple application process for driving licences and their pickup at distribution points outside government offices even for those who are obtaining their first driving licence," says transport minister Martin Kupka.

Over the last three months, 51 191 drivers wanted to exchange their driving licences through the Transport Portal. A total of 58% of applicants chose to have their licences delivered to government offices, while the other half (42%) wanted their ready documents sent to them. Delivery boxes were dominant and received a total of more than 15 000 driving licences (68%).

Driving licences with “marked professional qualification” and driver's cards for digital tachographs can also be sent as a package to the box: since 1 July 2025, more than 1 900 such requests have already been processed through the Transport Portal. Almost 900 cards issued this way were sent to delivery boxes, collection points or Balíkovna. Approximately 330 drivers who applied for driving licence replacement also applied through the Transport Portal for the card that is an essential part of a well-functioning tachograph. Professional drivers are often on the road, and thanks to digitalisation, they do not have to worry about office opening hours any more.

Since 1 July 2025, the Transport Portal has allowed drivers to order the delivery of their driving licences or driver's card to the delivery box. Drivers can log in to the portal using for example their Bank Identity (Bank iD), which is available to 6.5 million clients of ten banks. The new delivery option costs CZK 100, eliminating the need for visiting the office. On top, the online application for replacement brings a 20% discount on the administrative fee. The documents are produced and prepared for delivery to the boxes by the State Printing Office.

By the end of this year, more than 200 000 expiring driving licenses still need to be replaced. For more information about the delivery, including questions and answers, visit https://md.gov.cz/doboxu.

The Ministry of Transport is cooperating with the state-owned company CENDIS, the State Printing House of Valuables, ICZ, Monet+, Balíkovna and the payment gateway Comgate, through which administrative fees can be paid on the Transport Portal, on delivering driving licences to the pickup boxes and locations via the Transport Portal.

Online driving license applications via the Transport Portal even for first-time applicants

The digitisation of transport agendas does not end with the delivery of driving licenses. For example, from 1 January 2026 it will be possible to apply for the driving licence online and pick up the documents in delivery boxes even for those who want their first license or are extending their driving authorisation. It will no longer be necessary to submit documents proving professional and medical fitness to drive, because this information will be automatically verified from the relevant information systems of the Ministry of Health.

Fresh drivers with permanent residence in the Czech Republic will also be able to start driving immediately after having been entered in the drivers registry, i.e., even before they receive their driving licence, for a period of one month from the date of obtaining the driving licence. During this period of time, the driving licence will be produced and collected by the applicant.
