The Group for the Hamburg Port Exchange reports further progress20/6/2023|Press releasesOn Friday, 20 June 2023, another meeting of the Czech-German Working Group for the exchange of port areas of the Czech Republic in Hamburg took place in Prague. The Czech delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Transport Václav Bernard, discussed with the German representatives the investment in the new port area and the preparation of a contractual solution in connection with the recently leased area. The first part of the meeting summarised the outputs of the technical group, which, as part of its mandate from January 2023, has been intensively addressing issues related to the provision of the river bank wall, road and rail connections to the new area on the Kuhwerder peninsula and other technology issues. A port area of 4 hectares is available for the Czech Republic, with the possibility of future expansion by a further 2 hectares. On the basis of these inputs, it was decided to divide the implementation of the investments in the new Czech territory in Hamburg into two phases. Already in the first phase it will be possible to carry out goods transshipments and use railway siding with a length of 2x 350 metres. In the second phase the possibility of handling maritime vessels is also envisaged but only after the implementation of the necessary rehabilitation works on the adjacent river bank edge, which will be used by inland vessels and maritime vessels and focus on coastal maritime shipping. It was also agreed that work would begin on the preparation of a contractual solution to the recently leased territory, both in terms of international law and in the form of the lease agreement.
