The Railway Administration (Správa železnic) today officially launched the reconstruction of the 15-kilometer section from Prague’s Ruzyně to Kladno. It will provide faster and higher-capacity transport, significantly improving travel between Prague, the airport, and the largest city in Central Bohemia. Construction will be completed in 2029. The tender was won by a bidder who offered a price half a billion lower than the original estimates. The modernization will contribute to a significant improvement in daily commuting. There will be fewer curves on the track, and trains will run faster, covering the journey from Kladno to Ruzyně in 7.5 minutes. That is half the current travel time. Thanks to the second track, service will be more frequent and reliable. Bus stops and parking lots will be connected to individual stations. Replacing level crossings on the busiest roads with overpasses or underpasses will improve safety, whether people are traveling by train or by car. “Central Bohemia’s largest city has been waiting for a proper high-capacity rail connection to Prague for decades. The reconstruction of the section from Ruzyně to Kladno means better travel for people and will strengthen the role of rail as a reliable daily mode of transport to work or school. I also appreciate the outcome of the open tender, where we managed to reduce the price by hundreds of millions of crowns, which is good news for all taxpayers,” said Transport Minister Ivan Bednárik. The Hostivice and Jeneč stations, as well as the Pavlov stop, will undergo reconstruction. The current station in Unhošť will be replaced by the Malé Přítočno stop on the realigned track, where a P+R parking lot for more than 300 cars and connecting buses will be built. New stops will also be built in the Jenečky district of Hostivice and in Velké Přítočno. The work will continue until 2029. It will be carried out by Subterra, OHLA ŽS, Elektrizace železnic Praha, and Swietelsky Rail, which submitted the most advantageous bid of 8.279 billion crowns in the tender. The estimated value of the contract was more than half a billion higher. “The modernization of the line between Prague-Ruzyně and Kladno is an exceptionally significant project for the entire Kladno region as well as for the Prague–Airport–Kladno rail connection. As the leader of the contractor consortium, we are at the helm of this project. We will do our utmost to ensure that the modernization achieves its goal and that the railway between Prague and Kladno becomes a sought-after transportation solution for the public. A technically demanding project lies ahead of us, in which we will apply state-of-the-art machinery and the expertise of our staff,” said Ondřej Fuchs, CEO of Subterra. The Prague-Ruzyně – Kladno Line Modernization Project is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Transport Program 2021–2027. National funding is provided by the State Transport Infrastructure Fund. Prague – Airport – Kladno Railway The modernization of the line between Ruzyně and Kladno is the longest section of the Prague–Airport–Kladno rail link. The renovation of the Negrelli Viaduct in central Prague has already been completed, and the new Praha-Bubny station and the Praha-Výstaviště stop are now in operation. Trains are also already running between the Kladno-Ostrovec and Kladno stations, and a new station building will open at this station later this year. The reconstruction of Masaryk Station is entering its most complex phase in the coming weeks.
