The Ministry has announced a technology neutral competition for the toll system after 2019

The Ministry of Transport repeatedly criticizes Kapsch for obstructing the process, with the aim of cancelling the toll tender before other bidders can come with bids that will show how far form competitive the current price is. The Ministry of Transport considers the action of the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS), i.e. the antimonopoly office, in checking the supply and operation of the toll system as highly extensive, raising doubts what the actual reason is.

Four parties interested – bidders registered in the competition for the toll system operator on Czech motorways and category I roads. This confirmed that there is interest in the contract on the market and the selection of the new toll operator can successfully continue. The Ministry of Transport will now assess whether all candidates have fulfilled the required qualification and will invite them to submit a preliminary bid.

The Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic together with Kapsch have successfully tested a piece of new software that will enable the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) to be operated in the Czech toll system. For European carriers who will use the services of any of the EETS providers, toll payment will be become significantly easier in the future and they will no longer have to purchase the Czech on-board unit for the use of toll roads in the Czech Republic. This can concern up to 370,000 foreign trucks that drive on domestic toll roads every year.
