These days, an increasing number of people are buying vignettes for this year. Many of them are contacting the Ministry of Transport and the Czech Trade Inspection Authority with questions and complaints about the sale of overpriced vignettes.
The state enterprise CENDIS and the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI) remind drivers to check the validity of their electronic vignettes and buy a new one on time. Those who have set up a notification of the ticket's expiry will receive the notification in their e-mail or, if they have entered their phone number, via SMS.
Drivers who are planning to travel to neighbouring countries will find useful news on the internet. A new central information point has been added to the state online shop with electronic vignettes edalnice.cz, directing users to the official online shops of neighbouring countries. It is possible to buy an electronic vignette there without additional charges.
Electronic highway vignettes have been valid in the Czech Republic for a year. The system administrator, the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure, would like to draw consumers’ attention to the risks associated with purchasing electronic vignettes from unofficial distributors. Not only are these purchases more expensive for customers, but they can also result in significant complications involving the administration of the electronic vignettes. Unfortunately, the numbers of these purchases are on the rise and increasingly numbers of drivers have contacted the customer line operators who are unable to help them in the majority of cases.
It has been exactly one year since the sale of e-vignettes launched. Digitisation made their purchase easier and more comfortable. Drivers can choose the start of validity and will also receive a notification by SMS or e-mail about nearing end of validity. To this day, 5,749,263 e-vignettes were sold, which is more than in 2020, when only old paper vignettes were available.
Many drivers did not intend to buy the e-vignette before summer holidays given its flexible validity. However, they should not forget about it before going on holiday. A fine for driving without a valid e-vignette can scale up to CZK 5,000 on the spot and to CZK 20,000 in an administrative proceeding.
