We have joined the Zero Debris Charter initiative for responsible use of space

The Ministry of Transport as the coordinator of space activities in the Czech Republic signed the so-called Zero Debris Charter. The move was made as part of an event for the Czech industry aimed at preparing the upcoming phase of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Space Security Programme. The objectives of this programme are closely intertwined with the Zero Debris Charter initiative.

Ariane 6 rocket launched thanks to Czech companies

The European Space Agency's (ESA) Ariane 6 launch rocket lifted off for the first time on Tuesday evening, 9 July, at 21:00 CET. Czech businesses have also contributed significantly to this launch thanks to ESA's Ariane and Vega Development programme.

The Czech Republic has been successfully promoting itself in European Space Agency for 15 years

This year marks 15 years since the Czech Republic joined the European Space Agency (ESA). Agencies focusing on cooperation between members on space missions, launch vehicles, research and many other areas in which Czech businesses, research institutes and academic entities also participate. Czech companies and academic institutions have been or are still involved in more than 600 technologically challenging projects in ESA; more than 60 Czech companies are directly involved in ESA projects and dozens more have an important role in supply chains. More than 20 Czech academic institutions and centres doing space research cooperate with ESA.

ESA BIC Czech Republic presented its startups at Space2Business

This year, five unique start-ups using specific space technologies and satellite data have been selected for the Prague and Brno branches of the European Space Agency's business incubator. Since the beginning of this incubation programme, i.e. since 2016, 43 start-ups have been supported. These start-ups performed together with those already incubated in the so-called demo day where they introduced themselves to the space industry and at the competition organised as part of the Space2Business event, which is part of the Czech Space Week festival. The start-up World from Space won the national round and the European award went to the start-up SPiN.

Minister Kupka attended a meeting of the Council of the European Space Agency ESA

A summit meeting of the European Space Agency (ESA) Council at ministerial level was held in Paris in the presence of transport minister Martin Kupka. Delegates from 31 countries discussed the priorities of the European Space Agency for the coming years, the use of space technology in industry and the budget for ESA's science and technology programmes.

The first Czech space mission will explore mining possibilities on asteroids

The first ambitious project from the Czech National Space Plan will be carried out after the European Space Agency (ESA) recommended the Space Laboratory for Advanced Variable Instruments and Applications (SLAVIA) project. It should lay down the foundations for future mining on asteroids by using two 20-kilograms satellites each of which will carry three devices designated mainly for exploration of asteroid fragments, or interplanetary matter entering the Earth atmosphere. Negotiations between ESA and a consortium led by a company S.A.B. Aerospace from Brno about launch of the project are in the final stage. Feasibility study, which will set the timeframe, should be elaborated within 12 months.
