The bypass of Otrokovice and the motorway from Cheb to Karlovy Vary will be free of motorway charges

Next year will bring a number of innovations and changes to drivers in the Czech Republic. Already from January they will be for example able to travel free of charge on five other sections of motorways, constituting city bypasses or through which category I roads pass. Staring in July, application for the driving licence can be made from outside the place of permanent residence in any office with extended powers. On the other hand, the Emission Measurement Stations will face a new duty: taking photodocumentation of the vehicles measured. You will find a more detailed overview of the changes below.

Starting on December 1, the emission measurement stations will have to make photodocumentation of the vehicles measured. At the same time, the stations will be connected to the Technical Inspection Stations Information System, where the video records and the measurement results will be stored on-line. The same system has worked for the Technical Inspection Stations since January 2016. The amendment to the act on the conditions of road traffic, however, extended the obligation of video recording to emission measuring stations as well.

Starting on January 1, 2018, the Ministry of Transport will exempt from fees another five motorway sections that constitute city by-passes or through which category I roads pass. These include for example motorways around Olomouc, Otrokovice, Pohořelice or Sokolov. This way, the Ministry of Transport follows its decision from the past years when 145 km of motorways situated near cities were excluded from charges.

Since 2017, the Ministry of Transport will remove from charging additional 11 highway stretches that consist of city bypasses and places where a highway meets I. class roads. These include, for example, entrances to Prague and part of the Prague ring road, a highway around Pilsen, Usti nad Labem, Olomouc, Prostejov or Beroun. By this step, the Ministry of Transport builds on its decision from 2016 when charges were excluded from 45 km stretches where a highway meets I. class road
