Transport ministers in Brussels discussed the latest transport proposals and how to balance the competitiveness and climate ambitions of the European automotive sector. They agreed, among other things, on a common text for draft legislation aimed at better enforcing passengers' rights in all modes of transport and ensuring passengers' rights in relation to journeys by different means of transport. They also adopted the Council's position on a ban on driving with Europe-wide effect.
The Road and Motorway Directorate has started construction of the continuation of the D3 motorway from Nažidla to the state border with Austria. The 3.5km section will replace the current I/3 road and will largely follow its footprint.
The European Commission will help refugees from Ukraine through its regulation effective from 27 July, temporarily recognising their driving licences and professional qualification as professional drivers of trucks and buses in its member states. This measure applies to Ukrainian citizens who are granted temporary protection in EU countries and is valid for the duration of this protection.
Over a month now, drivers with expired driving licence can apply for an exchange online via Citizen Portal using a data mailbox. Everything can be done from the comfort of your home in just a couple of minutes without a need to visit a municipal authority. From 1 June, ca. 6,000 drivers tried this new option.
Expired driving or professional competence licences and technical roadworthiness checks are extended by 10 months. The extension applies to documents that expired between 1 September 2020 and 30 June 2021. The validity of Czech certificates, technical inspections or licences is extended by 10 months in the entire European Union from the day of the original validity. The extension of validity is another step to reduce mobility of citizens as a part of protective measures adopted to fight COVID-19 pandemic. The Regulation is effective from 6 March 2021.
This weekend, the final construction season on D1 has begun. On Friday, warning signs and protective barriers were deployed, and on Saturday 20 February, the modernisation of a section 23 Devět křížů (EXIT 168)–Ostrovačice (EXIT 178) in direction to Brno started. As of Monday, drivers will drive in a 2+2 mode in carriageway in direction to Prague. Works on the other sections will start in the course of March.
