Imagine roads that communicate with you. They can tell you where traffic jams are about to start, give you early warning of dangerous situations, share information on speed and traffic density, and even help you respond in time to approaching emergency vehicles. All this is made possible by the revolutionary C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems) technology, which connects vehicles with each other, with the transport infrastructure and with central systems. C-ITS is a key step towards autonomous mobility, but it is already delivering concrete benefits not only for drivers but also for road managers. The technology is already being introduced in Europe and the Czech Republic and its importance in transport will continue to grow in the near future.
The Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with the Association of the Automotive Industry and the Association of Car Importers, prepared an amendment to the law that will fully utilise the potential of the current technical capabilities of cars sold in the Czech Republic and the EU. The amendment to the law is pending consideration in the Chamber of Deputies. The key points of the legislative changes were presented at an expert conference organised by Valeo, a major player in the development of technologies for autonomous vehicles.
The new strategic material Autonomous Mobility Plan 2025 with an outlook until 2030, which was approved by the government at its meeting today, brings the Czech Republic significantly closer to the widespread use of autonomous technologies in transport. Its aim is to prepare the domestic transport and innovation sector for changes arising from new trends in smart mobility. The development of autonomous mobility will also have a positive impact on the industry, opening up another wide range of opportunities for high value-added applications.
